In the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, in Lima, Peru, the Seventh-day Adventist Church conducted a free medical campaign and blood donation and delivered food kits and school supplies to students affected by landslides in the town of Jicamarca, located in the district.
Actions were developed within the framework of Holy Week (the final week of Lent) and an evangelism campaign themed “The Year of the Great Conquests,” with the purpose of witnessing, serving, and making known the Word of God. The number of inhabitants in the district is more than 1.225 million, and only about 8,000 are Adventists.
This medical campaign, held on Tuesday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 12, 2023, was highlighted by the service in the care of general medicine, pediatrics, ophthalmology, dentistry, family planning, anemia screening, tuberculosis screening, healthy eating, massage therapy, and a space for spiritual health.
Pastor Omar Bullón, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lima’s east zone, highlighted the promotion of physical and spiritual health. “Here, in the largest district of Lima, we have come with all the leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in northern Peru to the health campaign, inviting people and teaching them about the Word of God,” he said.
On the other hand, Gladys Isla, general coordinator of the Hospital de la Solidaridad, commented on the number of people who attended: more than 100 patients. In addition, Dr. Juan Zubieta, from the Almenara Hospital Blood Bank, congratulated the Adventist Church for promoting blood donation and its volunteers.
Institutions such as Radio Nuevo Tiempo Perú (which promoted the radio station 103.3 FM), Universidad Peruana Unión (together with its students from the fields of human medicine, nutrition, and psychology), Peruvian Social Health Insurance (EsSalud), and the Municipality of Lima also joined in.
